I'm a mermaid

As I look out at all of you gathered here, I want to say that I don’t see a room full of Parisians in top hats and diamonds and silk dresses. I don’t see bankers and housewives and store clerks. No. I address you all tonight as you truly are: wizards, mermaids, travelers, adventurers, and magicians. You are the true dreamers-

I watched Hugo last night and I loved it, it made me realise that I need to start pursuing what I want to do with my life. i.e. be more creative, seeing all these clips of George Melies work hearkened back to when I started university all starry eyed and naive that I could make a career out of what I loved, and so far it is not going so well. Do you ever get the feeling that you should be doing something else?

  1. Yes all the time. I'd love to spend my life doing more creative things. Instead I sit in a cold grey office dreaming about it.

That actually makes it sound more depressing than it really is, it's just that work wise I'd love to be doing something totally different!

  2. Oh, I saw Hugo last weekend and I was smitten!! I might even go see it again at the matinee. It actually made me desperate to dig out my old 35mm camera and resume my highschool obsession with surrealist photography...!

  3. I get that feeling ALL the time. In fact, it's usually more like 'I should be doing something!' but feel so lost and have no idea what to do. Gah. I really want to see Hugo, though - but I have to wait until it comes out here in January.

  4. Haven't seen Hugo yet, but Melies makes the creative side of my little brain light up, too!

  5. You're the second blog friend who's raved about Hugo. I can't wait to see it!

My husband and I are having a bit of a quarterish-life crisis at the moment. We want to move to a different city. The only problem is finding my husband another job! Being an adult isn't so easy. I'm worried about being able to find a job he loves in a town we love.

Sounds like we all need a New Year's Resolution to do more creative things on a more regular basis. I think we need a blog project!

  6. Rachel: I'm the same just want to be doing something else I am very thankful that I have a job though.

Dakota: Oh did you watch it in 3D? digging out your 35mm sounds like a grand idea!

Andi: It's hard knowing that you want to do something else and not knowing how to go about it. Not much longer to wait, it is well worth the wait.

Lisa: He was a genius makes me realise I need to stop whining and just be more resourceful with my spare time.

Lauren: It is a rather rubbish at times being an adult, but sometimes I think life's too short to not take chances, as long as you have a back up plan. I think that would be a lovely idea.
