Style Icon: Mildred Hubble

The Worst Witch was my favourite book when I was little. When I was asked at my Church of England Primary School what I wanted to be when I grew up, I would retort, 'A Witch'. I have always been drawn to the macabre and freaky side of life, so Mildred Hubble was my perfect heroine. With her freckled face, long dark locks, cape flapping in the wind and her tabby cat hanging onto her broomstick for dear life, I found it all so romantic. I have adored Halloween from being little, I have always felt like a loner a weirdo so it makes me feel good that I can go all out and act like I'm only doing it because its Halloween...

Are you excited for Halloween?

  1. Quite truly, I think any excitement I may be able to summon is due to the influence reading your blog this last couple of years! I couldn't really be bothered before...and I DO have a nice little idea for a Halloween post for the first time ever!
You make a divoon witch, rather perfectly how a witch SHOULD look; a little saucy, petticoats, the pointy hat....I have never read that book! Shame on me! My earliest memory of a fabulous witch is probably Glinda from Wizard of Oz! Years of paganism slightly injured any ideas of glamourous witches, but I'm over that!

  3. Halloween is not big in Spain. It is more the day of the dead, but not as much fun as Mexico.
    Great dress, wonderful witch.

And hey, your look here, its marvellous!! :) I wanted to be a witch when I was a child, I even had jars filled with some herbs and a wand, and some magical books I wrote myself :D

  5. Aww! You always look lovely but I reckon you look better than ever as a witch! You look like a sexy witch though and not like these 'halloween witches' hehe! I am like you, an odd one who always dresses like a weirdo and so love to have the excuse! ;) The last few years worth have been stolen from me thanks to being broke and depressed haha so this year I'm going all out to have a good time! I'm going to see the cabinet of Dr.Calligari (a fav!) with live organ music at the theatre!!! SO very excited! What are you doing kitten? Zoë xxx

  7. you make a great witch! When I was little my favorite book was about a witch too. It was called kleine hexe (which means little witch) and I adored her. she was an outsider in the normal world aswell as in the world of witches, in the end she gives up trying to be liked by the old witches and just does her own thing. Best rolemodel if you ask me. I spent most of my childhood days trying to convince our broom to fly (if I wasn't busy being a pirate or zorro). now I spend most of my days doing my own thing not giving a damn that I don't fit in. :)

  14. I completely, totally adore this hauntingly wonderful witch's costume. I've been a witch numerous times myself over the years, but have never had a costume I liked as much as this one. I will be tucking these photos away in my inspiration file for the future (thank you, dear Hannah).
