Hello there, how are you? Apologies for the lack of continuity in my posts but work is currently zapping all life out of me. However, enough of that sappery. On Sunday me the man and my niece and sister went to the fabulous Treacle Market in Macclesfield, it's filled with tasty fresh produce, vintage wares, music and enough adorable doggies in jumpers to have you grinning from ear to ear, despite the cold.
I got myself some second hand Edgar Allan Poe books, I have been yearning for the Barnes and Noble version of his works but its too pricey, so when I saw this blood red cover I was as giddy as a kipper all for a simple donation to charity. The two vintage plates are just gorgeous, nothing matches in our kitchen, which is how we like it.
Also purchased this reproduction print and some fabulously lovely brooches from eBay, who knew I could get my mitts on a bat brooch?!
Have you found any delights of late?
O, splendid score, the blood red cover is the most perfect shade! I confess to not having read any Poe, due to being of a scaredy nature!
ReplyDeletethe plates are just lovely, and I adore the bat!!!
I still have a bat pendant somewhere, which I bought at the Kensington Markets in 1989, at the very height of my Gothdom! They really are adorable creatures!
Poos to work, but it is a means to an end and we must grit our teeth and get on with it. Working did at least get my house paid off, as well as lots of fabularse travel over the years...but it IS meh.....XXX
Fantastic find, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend, my lovely.

I am a bit addicted to collecting vintage editions of my favorite books (sometimes even books that I should have read, but never did). And I love the little bat brooch! I've been meanings to buy more vintage pins lately; I keep wanting to wear little clusters of them on blazers and coats.
ReplyDeleteI'm having trouble picking a recent favorite find, so I'll go with something I found at an estate sale this morning: a late 50's/early 60's black eyelet sundress. It fits like a dream, and it was only $4!
Be still my Poe loving heart, that hardcover book is a vintage treasure of the highest caliber. From the dark, subtly brooding colours to the eerie classic tombstone illustration, it's absolute macabre poetry book perfection.

That bat brooch is marvellous! And I do love that Poe book. It's gorgeous. I've got a very cheap collected edition of all his work which is very unwieldy and unattractive. Ha. But it does the job!
ReplyDeleteFun finds! Alas, I am keeping myself away from antique stores/estate sales/markets/etsy/ebay until I get rid of my damn clutter! Aaaargh. Too much stuff, not enough house.
ReplyDeleteI love old books so much. Congrats on scoring some Poe.
