The Final Years of Marilyn Monroe: The Shocking True Story

So I have just finished reading this book by author Keith Badman and had to share how amazing it is.

Now being a Marilyn fan I have read numerous books on the actress, yet this one really struck a chord with me. It is excellently researched, and eradicates a lot of the conspiracies that have tarnished Marilyn's reputation throughout the years. He names and shames a number of people who have made a living off their supposed connection's to Marilyn. Jeanne Carmen, B movie actress and model being one of the many who made up a connection with Marilyn.

Jeanne Carmen, great leopard print outfit but not a great 'friend'

Badman did all his own research, opposed to just using what was already out there. He even went  through the Kennedy's Library in Massachusetts, he says of his findings;

 "It’s amazing what you can find. I’d find things like flight times in JFK’s diaries which would contradict stories of where he supposedly was at the time according to other biographers.”

This is a must read for anyone who yearn to learn every little detail they can about the actresses last few years. It is still no less heartbreaking as to why she died the way she did but it certainly sheds some light on her complicate life. Being the empathetic pansy I am I did sob on finishing the book, like many I wish I could go back in time and 'save' Marilyn, but she lives on.

Speaking of living on there are two Marilyn films currently in the works. 'My Week With Marilyn' is currently in post production, and centres on Marilyn's time working with Laurence (I never cared for his acting) Olivier during the filming of The Prince and The Showgirl. Now I do adore Michelle Williams ever since Dawson's Creek (I hated Dawson and Joey but loved Pacey and Jen), however I do hope she can capture Marilyn's essence. Here is a shot of her as Miss Monroe;

The other film will star Naomi Watts as Marilyn in a film entitled simply 'Blonde', based on the book of the same name by Joyce Carol Oates. Now I have not read this book (yeah I know I said I had read numerous) and I believe as far as I can gather that it is a mixture of fiction and fact. I admire Watts greatly as an actress so I am excited to see what she can do with this. There are no promotional shots of Watts as Marilyn yet, but here's one that looks like its for Thierry Mugler Angel perfume campaign where she is looking rather Marilyn-esque:

Who is excited for the upcoming films? and who will you prefer seeing play Marilyn?

  1. Michelle Williams all the way, she is perfect for a Marilyn role. Film 4 are playing a documentary with unseen photoage of Marilyn on Thursday night, looks really interesting.

  2. Think I agree with you, Michelle seems to have more vulnerability in her acting. Yes, I saw the advert for it yesterday, looks very interesting, but the advert said Tuesday on more 4 at 10pm. I didn't even know these tapes existed.
    Thank you for saying so, your blog is very sweet love your style! x
