Restless (2011)

Restless is Gus Van Sant's latest film, I watched the trailer the other day and it looks right up my street; dreamy, romantic and odd. I fell for Mia Wasikowska in Alice in Wonderland, and Henry Hopper looks like a very promising actor, if he is anything like his father I am sure he will be.

The film focuses on a terminally ill Annabel who falls for Enoch, a boy who has a penchant for attending strangers funeral's , who has an imaginary friend in the form of a Japanese kamikaze pilot from WWII. The clothing for the film look adorable, think I need to pair my leopard print coat with red gloves now.

Restless is out on 21st October in the UK and 16th September in the USA. All images found via google.

  3. I'm definitely intrigued by this! Gus is one of my favourite directors (though I've somehow managed to avoid seeing Good Will Hunting? How does that happen? Need to go back and watch ALL of his films) but I know his films can be hit and miss (really didn't like Even Cowgirls Get the Blues) so far, for me anyway, I've found he seems to work better with male-focused stories, so I'm definitely interested to see how this goes. I'm feeling more neutral about it than I did about Milk, but I think that's good because it means I'm not getting my hopes up. And I will stop ranting in your comment box now. ;]

  4. Andi I love your enthusiasm I have to admit I have only seen Milk, Last Days and Good Will Hunting, definitely need to see his earlier work. He does seem to focus on men, and the women are often a bit deranged and self centred, so will have to see what this is like. x

  6. Hehe, thanks ;] I definitely recommend them! Mala Noche is a gorgeous example of what can be done on a small budget (or, I guess, could be done in the '80s) and My Own Private Idaho is one of my favourites (mainly for River Phoenix's performance - I read something about how Gus was planning on an Andy Warhol biopic starring River but canned it when River died because he didn't want anyone else in it.)

  7. Andi: I have heard the my own private idaho is great, think I will be adding that to my lovefilm rental list. That is interesting about the Warhol biopic, shame it never got made.
