Style Icon: Gwen Stefani

I have been obsessed with Gwen since I was eleven, so much so that before I started secondary school I managed to persuade my Mum to let me bleach the front of my hair (not all of it I wasn't allowed) so I could be more like my idol. I tried my hardest to carry off the red lipstick, like her, but it took me until I was in my early twenties till I could carry red lips off, and now I feel naked without it.

I love Gwen's old Hollywood but punky style, and am big fan of her music and No Doubt's, one day I will get to see them live and I will definitely be rocking the red lips and a bindi.

Polka dot dresses are always a favourite of mine

Have your style idols changed a lot over the years?

  1. I love her sense of drama!Pix 1,2 and 3 really rock my world,I do like her better vintagey/Westwoody,but she was always very cool and funky. The rocking horse frock is quite fab,I'd quite like that myslef! That "It's my Life" video is fantastic,I watch it a lot.Great cover, too.
My style icons have been pretty much the same for about 25 odd years, really!(Siouxsie,Mrs Slocombe etc-I do have most them listed on my "for the nosy" page should YOU feel nosy)I just keep adding new ones,so the list would be really enormous if I tried to make a complete one!

  2. :D Teehee! 1996 I was 11 and ND were playing and I begged my mum but she would not let me go! I was too young! :( They were my absolute favourite back then though... And in 2000 my mum's friend/hairdresser came round to our house to dye my hair platinum blonde to go onto pink and my mum cried whilst it was happening! I was lucky she let me as nobody at school had dyed hair like that! (in those days!) I just remember being blown over by her pictures in the Return Of Saturn album cover and a Nylon Magazine interview, and I NEEDED pink hair! I hadn't seen that picture of her in that carousel dress before, what a dress!!! :O She still inspires me to this day! Zoë x

Zoe: I bet your hair looked fantastic, I was the same at school the odd one out hah. Yeah I actually lost the liner for Return of Saturn as I used to stare at it that much hoping I could look as cool as her.

  8. Gwen Stefani is thee most beautiful woman in the world! She looks incredible still, completely ageless. For some reason when I about 7 years old I was obsessed with Scary Spice and was adamant I wanted my tongue pierced! Mum did allow me to dress head to toe in leopard print though.

  10. Ah, a Gewn fest! So glad I clicked on your blog this evening - that's just what I needed. I do love her style. Not sure about her prowess as a designer though, sorry Gwen :/

(I saw her in concert with No Doubt and she's one of the most energetic performers I've ever seen. I mean she was climbing amp stacks and jumping off them, and her abs were ridiculous!)
