Pretty Things

Hi there lovelies well I'm another year older and still feel fifteen, mentally anyway! The trip to London was lovely we walked until my feet bled, that was mostly due to inappropriate shoes though. Below is some finds and birthday gifts I received.

The blue velvet dress with lilies is from Ben via Etsy and the blue 1930's dress I got from the most wonderful stall at Spitalfields, unfortunately I cannot fit it over my head, I have ridiculously broad shoulders which I never allow for when I am buying clothes, weep. The light green house coat I got from Alfies Market, when I walked in I nearly squealed with delight especially at Tin Tin Collectables, then I got confused why there was long codes on the price tags, oh no they were the prices. £225 for a fox stole? what the, anywho I got the housecoat for £25 as there is a seam which is loose, I am going to where it as a dress as that's how I roll! 

This sorry looking dress I got from Judy's Affordable Vintage Fair, it was £10 there is a large rip in the middle but I still had to get it the beading is just breathtaking. Plus its the only thing I could afford I don't know what people's idea of affordable is at these fairs, but averaging at £45 for a dress that ain't cheap.

My lovely sister got me some Von Follies by Dita Von Teese underwear and one of her sumptuous red Art Deco lipsticks. And finally have the beautiful Pretty Things book by my style icon Liz Goldwyn. 

Last but by no means least Ben got me a signed Anna May Wong picture, I have long adored Anna I did a lot of research on her at uni, wish I had written my thesis on her like I planned too!

The Hollywood Costume Exhibition: Please can I have replicas?

Oh hello there you little petals, how the devil are you? On Saturday me and Ben went to the Hollywood Costume Exhibition at the V&A it was the last weekend of it and I swore I would see it as I missed the Wedding Exhibition last time round.

I am so glad we went, we got the train in the early hours of Saturday morning, I can sleep on anything so I promptly nodded off until I got rudely jabbed in the side by my beloved. Before we knew it we were queuing in the underground entrance of the V&A once the doors opened people almost sprinted to the exhibit, I totally spotted hip and happenin designer Henry Holland.

Any who the costumes were divine, I still cannot get over how tiny most actors are. They seem larger than life on screen right?  but most of them are average height or smaller. The costume that really got me was the waitress dress that Joan Crawford wore in Mildred Pierce, I welled up at the sight of it, it's one of my favourite films and one of the first noirs I discovered whilst studying film that got me hooked on the genre.

Vivien Leigh's infamous curtain gown from Gone With the Wind- I constantly tease my mum that she should tear down her raw silk curtains to make me such an ensemble, she has not taken me up on this.

Lovely London

Last weekend me and the fella went to London for his birthday, we stayed in Kings Cross in a Tune hotel, a room with no windows would you believe, it was only £35 a night. So we weren't expecting much but it was clean and modern and most importantly air conditioned, it was bloody hot whilst we were there! I would definitely recommend the hotel for those on a budget, who prefer to spend their pennies on macaroons! 

This was my ensemble for the first day, I wore my Mexican skirt, men's vest and favourite straw hat!

First place we went to was Ed's Diner a wonderfully kitsch 1950s diner right outside of Euston station, I had a chilli dog and a root beer float, as I was pretending I was in How to Marry a Millionare.

Most of my pennies were spent on food, we went to the Mexican restaurant Wahaca three nights in a row, it is brilliant in there, reasonable, bright and tasty. It got a bit embarrassing when the waitress recognised us, oh well we had to make the most of it. 

Ladurée was a must, I just love how special you feel when they put those little morsels of joy in the beautiful box and bag.

My favourite place though was Byron, where I neglected to take photos of my divine spinach and tomato mayonnaise chicken burger with courgette fries.

The Victoria & Albert Museum is my favourite museum ever, I feel at peace in there, as sappy as that sounds. I just adore wandering around all the amazingly fascinating exhibitions, especially the fashion and sculptures. I want to go back in October for the Hollywood Costume exhibition.
